These images taken at San Quentin State Prison were part of a collaborative photography book created with students at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. Titled, “A House is Not a Home,” the book captures this time in American history when finding a home is an elusive goal. For others the quest is more subtle, like these men who attempt to humanize their 4’x9’ cells with handmade crafts and photos of loved ones.
